Preparation H

Welcome to Live it Up! San Diego's first gay-friendly podcast. At least to the best of my knowledge it is. After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that there are no podcasts based in San Diego that are gay-run or center around gay-friendly topics.

This is my first podcast. I'd like to give some background into why I'm doing this. For about a year and half now, I have been a fan of podcasts. I have many favorites and, in fact, the reason I want to do a podcast is because I love listening to them so much and I want to add to the variety out there.

The podcast that inspired me was The Little Fatty Cast. It is with deep regret that after December 2007, the two fatties (a.k.a. Larry and Big Fatty) ceased podcasting. They had everything that I hope to aspire to: wicked senses of humor, tons of personality, a great format and some of the best sound effects.

The Little Fatty Cast is what led me to many other podcasts. Their segment "Match the Podcasts" contained quotes that Big Fatty would read and Larry would have to guess which podcaster said them on their show. With some of the most random and funny quotes, I had to investigate their podcasts and find out more. That's how I got hooked on ArcherRadio, PNSExplosion, QCastConnection, The Daily Purge, How Much Do We Love... From there, I've stumbled onto a another gem, Pod is My Copilot. A lot of these podcasters are in the same circle of friends. All these shows are gay-friendly casts. If you like one, you tend to like the other.

I do listen to several other podcasts that have more mainstream appeal: NPR broadcasts, the Official Walt Disneyland Resort Podcasts, Broadway Bullet and Five Hundy by Midnight just to name a few.

So now it's my turn. In the coming days, and I hope NOT weeks, I'll be setting up shop here. Learning how to assemble the audio equipment and how to publish a podcast is not easy. I'm a total newbie. So until I get up and running, I've decided to blog about some of the basics for other podcasters who may decide they want to take a crack at the mic to use as a resource. Some of my first episodes will be informational in nature too, until I can settle on a format.

So thanks for stopping by. Please come back soon and be sure to listen as soon as we're on the air—so to speak.
